Frequently Asked Questions

If your question is not answered below, please contact me.

Q: What ages do you teach?

A: I enjoy teaching both young and adult learners. As a rule, I accept students starting at age 6.

Q: What if I don't own a piano?

A: It's important to have regular access (5-days a week) to an acceptable practice instrument. Many students have access to an instrument, even if they don't own it. Students can sometimes use a piano at their school or at their church. At minimum, students should practice on a full-sized instrument [even if it's electronic].

Q: How strict are you with scheduled lesson times?

A: Lessons times are intended to work for both the student and the instructor. The more flexible students can be with their availability, the more flexibility I have in scheduling lessons. The same applies to make-up lessons.

The 3-week scheduling system should easily accommodate students with either set availability, or availability that tends to change each season.

Q: What kind of piano do you have?

A: I have a 7' Kawai (seven feet) grand piano, which I acquired in the Summer of 2003. Some time during the piano's history, the serial number was removed, so it is not possible to determine the exact age of the instrument. My piano technician estimates it was built in the 1960's, making it around 40 years old.

Q: Can you refer me to a local piano tuner or technician?

A: I'm very satisfied with my tuner/technician's work, and would be happy to refer you. Please contact me for his information.

Q: New Hope is too far away from my house; do you know any teachers that live nearby me?

A: I never want to lose a student because of their commute. On the other hand, I tend to be an impatient driver and I do not enjoy traffic. So, I appreciate these types of requests. I'm always happy to help anyone interested in learning about music find a teacher that meets all their needs, including proximity. Just let me know what you're looking for and I'll network with teachers I know to help you find a good fit.
